The Lakeside World Professional Championships won't be the only world darting event taking place in January that will have the support of Red Dragon Darts. Four players from Twyford in Berkshire are planning to play non-stop pairs for 30 hours to break their own Guinness World Record and raise thousands of pounds for Cancer Research UK and The Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Three of the four players – Paul Taylor, Andy Brymer and Richard Saunders – hold the current record of 25 hours 34 minutes set in January 2007. The fourth player this time will be Lee Hannant. Red Dragon Darts played an important role in the first record attempt by donating Blade III dartboards, and will be so again.

"When we set the Guinness World Record we played 245 games of 501, threw 14,877 darts and walked 15 miles between oche and dartboard. Believe me, after 20 or so hours on your feet your back feels like its on fire and the last thing you want is to have to bend down and pick up a dart off the floor," said Richard. "With the Blade III boards and had only a handful of bounce outs."

Under Guinness World Record rules, the players must play competitive darts at a normal rate of play. They are allowed a five minute break for every complete hour of play. When they set the world record in 2007 the four players averaged just under 47 for three darts with a highest finish of 126 by Andy.

The four players will make their attempt at The Waggon & Horses pub in Twyford and whilst the record is catching everyone's attention, the main aim once again is to raise money for charity.

"We raised just under £7,000 for Cancer Research UK last time, and we'd like to break that record too," said Paul. "Sponsorship is the main method of raising money, but we are also holding a raffle and auction of prizes donated by Red Dragon Darts and local companies in Twyford."
